This research combines psychophysics and functional MRI to understand how abnormalities in early visual cortex give rise to altered visual perception in amblyopia, specifically visual distortions.
Scientific Question
Can we quantify population-level changes in cortical function and perceptual distortions in amblyopia, and do these changes explain the visual deficits experienced by patients?
Why This Matters?
Amblyopia affects millions of people worldwide and remains one of the leading causes of vision loss in children and young adults. By improving our understanding of how the brain processes visual information in amblyopia, this research may help identify objective biomarkers of cortical dysfunction and guide the development of more effective, personalized treatments.
