Integrating B1 and B0 shimming with fast segmentation and surface reconstruction to enable high-resolution structural brain imaging for clinical diagnosis.

Scientific Question

Can field inhomogeneity (B0) and transmit-field (B1) shimming be jointly optimized — and coupled with fast segmentation and surface reconstruction — to deliver clinically usable high-resolution structural brain images?

Why This Matters?

Field inhomogeneities limit the achievable resolution and fidelity of structural brain MRI, particularly at high fields, which constrains diagnostic confidence. Improving shimming and reconstruction directly improves image quality where it matters clinically, and the work is positioned for translation through an academic–industry collaboration with Siemens at the Montreal General Hospital.
