Design and characterization of solder-free distributed capacitance MRI receive coils

What are the improvements of building an MRI coil with large distributed capacitance and minimal solder joints?

Why This Matters?

Compared to other imaging modalities, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) offers a non-invasive option for clinically diagnosing patients. Researchers agree that improvement to the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is the approach to even more technical diagnostics. One approach to increasing SNR is improving to the receiver imaging hardware. In this project, the benefit of distributed capacitance and reducing solder-joint usage is examined, which should enable the creation of receiver coils that, in comparison to conventional coils, need minimal tuning and greater SNR.
